Till death do us part is a larp about a wedding between a Palestinian woman and a Norwegian man, in Ramallah, Palestine in August 2012. It is organized by The Peace & Freedom Youth Forum and Fantasiforbundet. As far as we know it is the first larp made in Palestine.
The game will center around the immediate preparations for the wedding and the wedding day. The first day will be a workshop day, getting into character and the way we play. Then the larp will go on for two days, with a break during the night.
There will be about 30 players, playing family and friends of the couple. We're hoping for players from Norway and the Nordic countries to join the game in Ramallah, playing the family and friends of the groom.
Playing style
The genre of the larp is social realism, it is not a romantic comedy or a melodrama. Still, reality tends to be quite silly or sad sometimes, and there’s ample room to play out these feelings. Even if the genre is realistic, we will, use some dramaturgical game mechanics (meta techniques) to enhance some of the important scenes in the larp. Due to local conditions we will also break the game between the two days of larping, going out of character and larp at night and going in again in the morning.
Preparations
The players are not required to prepare for playing their character beyond getting costumes. You will receive a written character some weeks before the larp, but the character and it’s relations will be fleshed out during the workshop day. For the larp, we will publish some background information on economic, political, social and cultural issues in Palestine and Norway on this website, and we expect you to read this to prepare for the larp.
